Purpose and Scope of the Job
Responsible for the coordination and supervision of administrative and clinical care activities during the assigned shift. Assesses and anticipates the health needs of patients and their families in collaboration with other health care team members. Ensures that services are provided in adherence with the hospital and nursing policies, procedures, guidelines and accreditation standards. Supports the mission and vision of Dar Al Shifa Hospital and the Nursing Department.
Main Duties and Responsibilities/Performance Standards

Provides direction to the nursing staff on her shift in the delivery of care and assists them as needed.

Acts as a role model, preceptor, and resource person in the application of standards and philosophy of nursing practices.

Allocates staff for patient care and reorganizes assignments based upon changing in patient needs and acuity.
4
Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks and duties in directing and coordinating care and unit activities.

Responds to patient/family concerns, consulting with head nurse/charge nurse and nursing/customer services supervisor as needed.

Oversees and coordinates admissions, transfers, and discharges during his/her shift.
7
Identifies problems on the shift and acts appropriately according to the situation.

Ensures appropriate documentation of all patient care given on the shift.

Ensures all nursing staff are aware, promote and support the patient and family rights.

Monitors and promotes unit patient and family education activities.

Maintains effective communication with all stakeholders using appropriate structures/mechanisms accordingly.

Monitors and evaluates nursing care through rounds, patient observation and documentation and takes actions or provides guidance based upon clinical judgment.

Maintains confidentiality of information from unauthorized persons.

Inform the head about the unit performance and Escalate issues as needed

Fosters a productive working environment and team work among her unit staff during the shift

Ensures availability and maintenance of supplies and equipment required to meet patient care needs.

Acts as a unit head in emergency situations and inform the head nurse as needed.

Participates in performance improvement activities as assigned by the Head Nurse.

Monitors the implementation of infection control and safety practices and reports any act that breeches these practices.

Participates in orienting new staff to the unit

Provides constructive feedback and support to subordinates to assist them improving their performance.

Facilitates opportunities for nursing staff to improve and /or expand clinical knowledge and skills.Encourages critical thinking and evidence based nursing practice.

Demonstrates responsibility for meeting mandatory education, e.g. fire, safety, infection control and others.

Ensure quality and patient safety practices are followed

Provide or promotes patient and family- centered care.

Promotes inclusive health by providing equitable and accessible care to patients and families with special needs
27
Accepts and performs other assignments within the realm of her/his knowledge and experience as requested by the Head Nurse, shift Supervisor or chief nursing officer.
