About the Role:
The States of Guernsey are looking for a Staff Nurse to join the Mignot Memorial Hospital in Alderney.
Mignot Memorial Hospital (MMH) is a small country hospital with a total of 22 beds. Of these, 14 beds are designated for long-stay care, providing nursing support to island residents who live within the hospital. The remaining 8 beds are acute beds used for short-term admission, assessment, and treatment. Patients whose needs cannot be met at MMH are transferred to the Princess Elizabeth Hospital (PEH) in Guernsey and, on occasion, to Southampton.
MMH also has a two-bedded resuscitation and emergency care area, where care is provided to A&E attenders, including both adults and children. The acute ward delivers care to patients with a wide range of acute and complex medical conditions, and occasionally surgical conditions.
The Staff Nurse role is integral to the direct delivery of high-quality nursing care. This includes the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of individual programmes of care from admission through to discharge. Staff Nurses are responsible and accountable for delivering safe, compassionate, person-centred, and evidence-based nursing care, while maintaining the dignity and respect of service users at all times.
The role includes supporting, promoting, and developing the professional skills of both registered and unregistered colleagues through knowledge, competence, and partnership working with the Acute Practice Development Team. With appropriate support and guidance, the post holder will be expected to take charge when required, coordinating the smooth running of the ward and working collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team.
Flexibility is essential, as the role also involves working within the long-stay area of the ward, providing fundamental nursing care to permanent residents. MMH offers a high degree of professional autonomy and the opportunity to be forward-thinking, enabling the delivery of effective, high-quality care to the community of Alderney.
