Job Summary

  • The Structural Engineer performs the task of managing the documentation of the structural drawings in coordination with architectural and MEP Works. As well as designing new builds, they have to ensure older structures remain safe, and often design renovation schemes to ensure long life for existing structures.

Job Responsibilities 1

Responsible to plan and conduct independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria.

Assists/devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices.

Analyze and configure the basic structural components of a building or other structure for ensuring the quality of design.

Ensure to review the design criteria (basic structural components, geotechnical properties, wind loads, seismic loads, loads, fire protection ….) and ensure adequacy of design.

Ensure to analyze the structural elements to ensure the quality of the design.

Ensure to analyze and review the loading plan and ensure compliance with codes and the project operational purpose.

Ensure to determine the pressures that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such as weather or earthquakes.

Ensure to study the impact of the temporary works (formwork, tower cranes foundations and supports) on the structural elements, provide calculations, details and ensure compliance.

Liaise with designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction of the proposed project.

Ensure to provide safe structural solutions to suite the architectural and MEP requirements.

Prepare shop drawings with all necessary details in accordance to the tender drawings in order to submit to the consultant for the approval.

Ensure to review the tender DWGs VS IFC DWGs and provide report of changes to the technical manger for the commercial department.

Ensure to provide material list for all the structural elements in the project as per the time schedule.

Ensure to timely prepare / contribute in preparation of the technical packages related to the structural scope.

Ensure to review technically the structural related offers provided by procurements and ensure adherence to codes and project design.

Support the implementation of HSE initiatives, participate in safety awareness activities, and contribute to incident reporting and resolution in alignment with company and IMS policies

Job Knowledge & Skills

Extensive structural knowledge for Buildings, Heavy Civils and Infrastructure works. Knowledge in preparing

reports, designs and drawings. Ability to liaise confidently with the client on structural matters. Ability to review a

structural problem / anomaly, determine its possible causes and make recommendations for rectification.

ERP knowledge preferably SAP functional skills are a requirement to be successful in this role.
