Apply NowPosition Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Manager of Internships and Students Affairs, the Student Recruitment Advisor provides guidance and academic expertise to a diverse student population in the Faculty of Education. Facilitates the pursuit of their educational goals and ensures students benefit fully from their University experience. Assesses student academic progress and ensures students make appropriate educational choices and decisions. Represents the Faculty of Education in student recruitments activities and initiatives. Responsible for communications materials related to student advising and student recruitment.
Primary Responsibilities: Student Recruitment • Plans and manages recruitment events such as Open House, Meet McGill, and other student recruitment initiatives, including the editing of website materials related to student advising and recruitment. • Develops and implements recruitment and retention initiatives to attract prospective students and meet enrollment targets. • Develops and oversees initiatives to attract and secure prospective applicants by leveraging events, targeted outreach, and digital engagement to drive increased program enrollment and enhance the visibility of academic offerings. • Plans, manages, and enhances undergraduate and graduate recruitment and yield initiatives such as Caravan Visits to Cégeps, McGill Open House, Cégep Student Information (CSI) Day, and Campus Connect to strengthen the prospective student pipeline and support enrollment goals. • Analyzes trends and competitor activities to recommend improvements to recruitment initiatives. Student Advising • Provides advice to students on a variety of student and academic issues such as student records and registration, admissions, transfers, readmission, exchanges, personal situations; academic performance, program requirements and course selection. • Evaluates and determines approval for students’ course selections, equivalencies, and course requests for Inter-University Transfers (AEHE), Study Away, and University Exchange programs. • Assesses and authorizes grade change requests based on academic policies and supporting documentation. • Advises new and returning students on registration, readmission, and transfer credits. • Advises department members on academic programs, University policies, and procedures with regards to student academic advising and student affairs. • Develops and presents group orientation and advising sessions for prospective, new and returning students. • Provides guidance to students going through periods of personal, financial, or medical difficulties, and refers them to the appropriate resources within McGill. • Manage student affairs activities and outreach activities for prospective, new, and returning students. Program & Administrative Support • Creates the course schedule structure, determines advanced standing, course exemption and substitution. • Evaluates program offerings and advise Program Directors with regard to course and program revision. • Assesses student affairs situations, informs, and advises Chair, Internships and Student Affairs Manager, and/or Program Directors and formulate recommendation on problem resolution. • Liaises with internal University offices to better advise students and make thorough decisions on student academic affairs. • Reviews, evaluates and recommends academic background and records of applicants for the undergraduate and graduate programs to Program Directors. • Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.
