Job Purpose
To ensure the efficient operation, troubleshooting, and optimization of the production line. This role will focus on technical expertise, operational leadership, and people management to ensure continuous and smooth production processes.
Core Responsibilities and Key Result Areas
Production Operations
- Provide technical expertise to ensure Rondo Starline production equipment operates at optimal efficiency, minimizing downtime and maximizing throughput.
- Oversee routine maintenance schedules, diagnose, and resolve any mechanical or electrical issues with the Rondo Starline machine.
- Regularly calibrate machines to meet production specifications and standards.
- Address any deviations promptly to ensure production continuity.
- Continually assess production processes and recommend improvements to enhance the performance of the production line, focusing on efficiency and cost reduction.
- Maintain detailed records of maintenance, repair, and calibration activities for all equipment.
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure consistent product quality and compliance with required standards.
- Regularly review machine manuals and manufacturer guidelines to ensure maintenance is carried out per best practices and manufacturer recommendations.
- Continuously monitor equipment performance through key metrics such as cycle times, throughput, and energy consumption.
- Keep a log of common and recurring problems, providing the team with a database of known issues and solutions to expedite troubleshooting.
- Proactively identify inefficiencies within the production process, focusing on Rondo Starline machine setups, cycle time optimization, and equipment performance.
- Work closely with quality control teams to ensure that calibrated machines consistently produce products that meet specifications.
- Periodically review and adjust configurations based on changing production demands, product variations, or seasonal requirements.
- Collect data on key performance indicators (KPIs) such as machine uptime, throughput, cycle time, and energy consumption, and analyze trends to identify potential issues before they impact production.
- Provide real-time technical support during machine startups to address any configuration or technical issues that may arise.
Operations Leadership

Serve as a key technical resource for the production team, providing guidance and solutions for complex issues related to Rondo Starline machine.

Work closely with production supervisors, operators, and maintenance teams to ensure smooth operation and resolve technical bottlenecks.

Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to coordinate production schedules and address operational issues.

Lead and manage projects for equipment upgrades, modifications, and installations to improve production capabilities and meet evolving business needs.

Lead training sessions for operators and maintenance staff, ensuring that they are well-versed in proper equipment use, troubleshooting techniques, and safety protocols.

Monitor the operational performance of the Rondo Starline equipment and take proactive actions to resolve any technical challenges that may arise, ensuring that production targets are met.

Provide clear direction and guidance to Technical Operators for efficient operation of the Rondo Starline Machine.

Lead problem-solving efforts during equipment malfunctions or production challenges to minimize downtime and maintain production continuity.

Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and best practices in pastry production operations

Manage cost and follow up to resolve maintenance issues

Drive cost-saving initiatives and efficiency improvements to maximize operational profitability.
People Management
- Champion a safety-first approach, ensuring that all technical and operational procedures comply with safety regulations and best practices.
- Develop and share technical knowledge and best practices within the team, promoting continuous learning and skill development.
- Provide mentorship, training, and support for junior technical staff, developing their skills in equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical analysis.
Key Performance Indicators
- Achievement of 90% uptime ensuring machine is running at maximum capacity with minimal downtime
- Proactively identification of potential failure points and addressing them before they lead to machine downtime.
- Ensure that production output meets or exceeds targeted levels by optimizing machine performance and resolving any technical issues that hinder production.
- Maintain high-quality standards, ensuring that equipment performance consistently aligns with product quality specifications (yield rates, defect rates, etc.).
- Reduction in material waste generated, achieved through improved machine settings and operational practices.
- Equipment utilization rate indicating capacity utilization and potential for increased output.

Experience Requirements
A good first degree in Food science and technology or other related sciences like Food Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering
Relevant Food, Health and safety certifications like, Bakery Production Technology, Lean Manufacturing, or Six Sigma for process improvement, are required
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in a high-volume bakery production environment, with hands-on involvement in the use of automated systems.
Decision Expectations
- Responsible for making decisions regarding machine settings, production schedules, and resource allocation to optimize the flow of pastry production.
- Responsible for assessing production line performance and determine adjustments required to maintain high efficiency and minimize waste.
- You will be responsible for ensuring that products meet quality specifications, and you’ll need to make decisions about product quality if inconsistencies are identified (e.g., adjusting dough mixing or sheeting processes).
- Ensuring that the production environment adheres to safety regulations and that staff are following proper food safety practices (e.g., temperature control, cleanliness, and allergen management).
Working Conditions
Job role holder typically work over 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday and will (most times) entail putting in some extra hours due to the fast-paced environment (weekends and evening work). The individual in this role is expected to possess a high degree of problem solving and critical thinking ability due to the nature of assigned roles and responsibilities. This role is not office based as it requires regular surveillance of the production machine and involves standing for long hours for routine inspection during production.
