Project Overview:

After more than 35 years operating as a successful uranium mine, the Ranger Project is entering its rehabilitation stage. Bechtel will be working alongside ERA and major stakeholder Rio Tinto to restore the land to the status of its surrounding World Heritage listed Kakadu National Park. A collaborative project, this project will be developed in consultation with the Mirarr Traditional Owners and will benefit the Jabiru community.

Job Summary:

As a Training Advisor, you will play a key role in assuring compliance with approved training and competency requirements. Working across both field and office environments, you will oversee in-field training activities, verify competency through observable performance, and ensure that training and work authorisation processes are applied consistently and in line with governance standards. 

 

This role centres on oversight, coaching, and assurance rather than primary training delivery. You will work with trainers and operational leaders to ensure training and competency systems are applied consistently and correctly, while auditing and validating training records to maintain compliance. Using the Workday Learning Management System, you will monitor workforce readiness, manage training and authorisation prerequisites, and ensure data remains accurate, current, and auditable.#LI-AF1 

 

This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced Training professional who can apply judgement, influence stakeholders, and uphold standards in a dynamic, high-risk operational environment. 

Please note there is the option to be Brisane based with ad hoc travel or if you are from Darwin its a BIBO 5,2 - 4,3   

Major Responsibilities:

To oversee in-field training activities, including area inductions, on-the-job training, and competency verification, ensuring alignment with risk-based and governance requirements.
To verify that the contractor’s training system is implemented as approved under the contract by conducting regular monitoring activities, field observations, and documented evidence reviews, ensuring compliance with agreed standards.
To evaluate worker competency through workplace observation, applying professional judgement to confirm evidence is sufficient, current, and supports safe work authorisation.
To coach trainers, supervisors, and leaders to drive consistent and effective application of training and competency processes.
To apply and uphold Training and Competency Governance procedures with consistency, accuracy, and independence.
To audit and validate training and competency records, identifying non-conformance, gaps, and risks, and ensuring appropriate escalation and resolution.
To exercising the authority to intervene or stop work where critical controls are not in place, not understood, or not operating effectively.
To utilise Workday Learning Management System as a governance tool to

  • maintain and control training and competency records
  • track completion of mandatory and role-based requirements
  • monitor compliance across contractor workforces
  • support work authorisation readiness through verified data
  • generate and interpret reports to identify gaps, trends, and risks

To lead first-person competency processes for new or modified plant, equipment, and critical tasks prior to operational rollout.
To maintain and improve approved training materials, procedures, and documentation to reflect current operational and regulatory requirements.
To identify, escalate, and support resolution of systemic issues, non-compliance, and opportunities for continuous improvement.
To balance field-based assurance activities with office-based system and reporting responsibilities (approximately 50/50), adjusting to operational priorities.
To provide approved ad hoc training support where required, without detracting from the primary governance and assurance focus.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent) preferred, or relevant equivalency.
  • Operational experience and qualifications advantageous.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in training and competency assurance within high-risk operational environments (e.g. mining, construction, major projects)
  • Strong expertise in competency-based training and assessment, including evaluating validity and sufficiency of evidence.
  • Proven ability to audit, assure, and maintain compliance across contractors and workgroups.
  • Demonstrated skill in coaching and influencing leaders to ensure consistent application of training systems.
  • Proficient in LMS governance (preferably Workday), data interpretation, and maintaining accurate, audit-ready records.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate autonomously and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to operate with a high level of autonomy across field and system-based responsibilities
