PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company with operations in Laos, and pre-development assets in Papua New Guinea and Chile.

 

In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in Phu Bia Mining Limited with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. PBM owns and operates PanAust’s two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.  

 

In Papua New Guinea, PanAust holds a 100 per cent interest in the Frieda River Limited Copper-Gold project, which is a transformative pre-development integrated mining, renewable energy and infrastructure project.

 

In Chile, PanAust holds a 66 per cent interest in the Inca de Oro Copper-Gold Project through a Chilean incorporated joint venture company, Inca de Oro S. A.

 

This position is based in our regional shared services office, located in the Lao capital of Vientiane.  Operating as Phu Bia Mining, our shared services team provides strategic and transactional support to our Lao operations and projects across a range of functions including Government and External Affairs, Finance, IT, Mine Technical Services and Human Resources.  

 

Responsibilities

 

Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, the Translator is responsible for accurately translating written and/or spoken content between Chinese (Mandarin) and English while preserving the original meaning, tone, and intent. This role supports effective cross-cultural communication across business, technical mining, legal, government relations, or other contexts.

 

Functional Responsibilities include:

 

  • Translate documents, presentations, reports, emails, and other materials from English to Chinese and also from Chinese and English with high accuracy and consistency.
  • Ensure translations maintain original meaning, technical context, and cultural nuance.
  • Proofread and edit translated materials for grammar, clarity, and style.
  • Provide interpretation support (consecutive or simultaneous) during meetings, conferences, or calls as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to clarify terminology and ensure subject-matter accuracy.
  • Maintain and update translation glossaries and terminology databases.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Meet project deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards.

 

Skills and experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Chinese Studies, English, or related field (preferred).
  • Native or near-native proficiency in both Chinese (Simplified and/or Traditional) and English.
  • Proven experience as a professional translator or interpreter (2+ years preferred).
  • Strong understanding of cultural differences between Chinese- and English-speaking regions.
  • Excellent written communication skills in both languages.
  • Familiarity with translation software (e.g., CAT tools such as SDL Trados, MemoQ, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
