About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists to join the team at Northern Health as an Unaccredited Cardiology Registrar. This position is fixed term full time until 31 January 2027.

This role involves working as a Cardiology Registrar to support the Consultant and Junior Medical Officers in providing care to inpatients and outpatients of the Cardiology Unit. There is an on-call component (approximately 1 in 7) supported by a consultant Cardiologist, Echocardiologist and Interventionlist at all times.

The Northern Health Cardiology Department is one of the busiest departments in Victoria with a general cardiology inpatient unit, heart failure unit and chest pain evaluation unit, as well as a non-invasive diagnostic unit and two cardiac catheter laboratories. The unit has a strong focus and track record in cardiovascular research, with a dedicated cardiology research fellow, interventional fellow, heart failure fellow and electrophysiology fellow.

In the role there will be the opportunity to manage patients with emergency cardiovascular disorders, learn interpretation and performance of non-invasive investigations such as transthoracic echocardiography, and participate in invasive procedures such as coronary angiography and permanent pacing.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience as a registrar and the ability to demonstrate sound knowledge in the management of patients with cardiovascular disorders.
  • Proven ability to work up patients with cardiac disease and identify those presenting with potential life-threatening disorders such as ST elevation myocardial infarction, pulmonary embolus and aortic dissection such that early escalation to consultant level can occur.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and ability to work in a team environment.
