Applications are invited for the position of Underwriter, Grade 2, in the Direct Sales & Support Services Department at Sagicor General Insurance Inc.

 

JOB SUMMARY

The primary role of the Underwriter is to profitably grow the book of business by evaluating insurance applications, assessing risks, and determining appropriate coverage terms and premiums. The Underwriter participates in target setting, making informed decisions, and ensuring compliance with company policies. The job holder must develop and maintain excellent client relationships with the overall goal to drive customer loyalty.  

 

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES

 

 

 Business Management

 

  1. Ensures all underwriting decisions comply with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  2. Maintains accurate records of underwriting decisions and policy details.
  3. Collaborates with other departments to resolve complex cases or issues.

 

 

Customer Relationship

 

  1. Develops, maintains and manages client relationships and provides excellent customer service.
  2. Delivers exceptional, timely, complete and accurate service to clients visiting the Client Experience Centre.
  3. Maintains service targets for Wait and Transaction times and monitors the Qmatic system daily for customer traffic flow and efficiency.
  4. Develops trusted, respected and lasting relationships with assigned accounts.
  5. Works with Senior Underwriter to craft solutions that meet client needs.

 

Underwriting Execution

 

  1. Follows up on quotations and closes new business.
  2. Reviews and analyzes all insurance applications, supporting documents, and risk factors.
  3. Assesses the level of risk and determines appropriate coverage, terms, and premiums.
  4. Approves or declines insurance applications within assigned authority limits.
  5. Responsible for new business executions and renewal reviews.

 

Underwriting Referrals

 

  1. Responsible for delivering excellent referral services to Junior Underwriters on the team.
  2. Assists in the development of Junior Underwriters.
  3. Performs any other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS REQUIRED

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Qualifications such as BDI; pursuing the ACII, CIP or equivalent programme.
  • A minimum of three (3) years related experience.
  • Knowledge of GIMS is not necessary but would be an asset.
  • Customer focused.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Highly organized with strong multi-tasking abilities.
