Postdoc Protein Production - Immunology, Infection, and Pandemic Research

The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP investigates and develops innovative ways of early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases resulting from impaired function of the immune system.
Our Immunology, Infection and Pandemic Research IIP site in Penzberg, Munich develops novel diagnostic tools and therapeutics against infectious diseases caused by emerging viruses and bacteria, with a focus on biotechnology, molecular biology, and microbiology.

Be part of change
- You will join a highly motivated, multidisciplinary team at our Penzberg site. In collaboration with partners from academia and industry, you will contribute to the development of diagnostic and therapeutic products and to scientific publications.
- Your main responsibility lies in the production and characterization of recombinant proteins under BSL-2 conditions.
- You will cover the entire workflow, from construct design to molecular cloning, production in different host organisms, purification, as well as biophysical characterization and interaction studies.
What you contribute
- Ph.D. in biochemistry, biophysics, molecular biology, or a related field and/or equivalent experience
- In-depth understanding of protein chemistry ideally complemented by a background in structural biology; proficiency with AI-based protein design tools
- At least 3 years of experience in recombinant protein production, particularly using eukaryotic expression systems; additional expertise in viral proteins or antibodies is an advantage
- Hands-on experience with biophysical methods such as DLS, SEC-MALS, nanoDSF
- Curiosity, creativity, and a strong motivation to implement and develop innovative approaches
- Independent and structured working style and the willingness to further expand your professional skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and German
- Strong team spirit and a high motivation to work in an interdisciplinary team in the life science environment

This part-time position is offered as a fixed-term parental leave cover until 31.12.2027.
